After various wrestling offers, three-time CIF state place winner Justin Mouritsen found himself a new home as he will be continuing his collegiate career at Western Colorado University.
A three-time varsity starter for the Cougars, Mouritsen made the best of his scholastic career by being a three-time state qualifier as well as a state place winner. As a sophomore and junior, Mouritsen placed fourth respectively at 106 and 113-pounds.
During his senior campaign, Mouritsen moved up to the 126-weight class where he was fourth at the rugged Central Section tournament and punching his ticket to the CIF state tournament. At the state tournament, Mouritsen placed eighth to help the Cougars place fourth as a team.
During the regular season, Mouritsen placed at the Newbury Park, Curt Mettler, Zinkin Classic, Redwood, Rockwell Rumble (Utah), and the Mission San Jose Invitational.
Mouritsen should be a great addition for the Mountaineers at 133-pounds. He should redshirt once he arrives and later contest for the starting spot competing against NCAA DII Super Regional VI fourth-place winner Cody Fatzinger.
The Mountaineers had a successful 2019-20 season that saw them go 13-6 in dual-meet competition while finishing second at the NCAA DII Super Regional VI and qualifying two of their athletes to the national tournament.
